Residency

Foothills Physical Therapy has developed, and is the only practice to offer, Idaho’s only locally established Orthopaedics Residency. Our residency is accredited through ABPTRFE, and is for physical therapists who have completed physical therapy school and are seeking advanced education in the specialized area of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.

Each year, one physical therapist will be accepted into the 12-month intensive program. Nine of our physical therapists will be faculty and mentors to the resident. Throughout the year, the faculty will provide lectures and labs, coupled with one-on-one mentoring, each week. This program will help the resident build clinical skills and professional experience.

This residency program helps the PT become a clinical expert in an efficient and effective way, and also helps us provide exceptional care to you, the patient. As of June 2023, we have had four residents start and complete our residency program, in addition to a 100% first time pass rate on the OCS.

Our residency program is one more way we give back to the great profession of physical therapy and to the community we serve.

About ORFPT

The Orthopaedic Residency of Foothills Physical Therapy (ORFPT) is a 12-month multi-facility, multi-mentor model.  Our curriculum consists of twelve modules, instructed by an expert, in each particular area.  Clinical education is additionally augmented by clinic time spent with sports medicine, orthopaedic, and neurosurgical physicians, as well as hand therapists and TMJ specialists.

The ORFPT is immersed in a private, therapist-owned practice with a culture for teaching, a model of one-on-one care, and a staff comprised of clinical experts. Roughly 60% of our PT staff is OCS or SCS certified.

With 15 years of growth and maturation of our practice, we have been repeatedly voted as the “Best of Treasure Valley,” winning this coveted award four consecutive years.  While physical therapy is our passion, our dream is to leave the field of physical therapy better than we found it by passing on our legacy to the next generation of physical therapists.  The ORFPT represents the culmination of this dream and is Idaho’s only locally established orthopaedic residency.
